What does it mean to walk the mastery path?

A master has arrived, whereas a practitioner on the mastery path is still on the journey … and always will be.

Achieving Mastery vs. Walking the Mastery Path

Being perceived as a master of change may sound appealing, but it is actually a short-lived, hollow achievement with little staying power. The designation of “master” leads to skills that become stale, perspectives that grow rigid, and solutions that are quickly outdated. Mastery is an end state, and those who believe they have achieved it quench their thirst for learning. They are not on the mastery path.

How Are High Impact Trusted Advisors Different?

High Impact practitioners haven’t “mastered” anything; they are perpetual students of their craft. It is this distinction—of being constantly curious, always seeking answers and, with those answers, new questions—that has, in large part, advanced them to the top of the change profession. High Impact Practitioners engage in a process of continuous education and self-discovery that requires constant vigilance and unwavering dedication. This is what we call the mastery path.

The Path Will Transform You

Walking the mastery path requires practitioners to continually seek learning experiences that will accelerate both their professional and personal growth. These experiences don’t look the same for everyone, but they do have a similar profile. At its essence, pursuing the mastery path involves transitioning from “doing” to “being.” That is, as you encounter events, circumstances, and relationships that teach you critical lessons, your craft will transform from something you practice into an expression of who you are.

Pursue Your Journey Down the Mastery Path

Whether you are already walking the mastery path or have yet to begin, we invite you to more deeply examine what you do and who you are through two pursuits designed to elevate your level of influence with senior-level executives: Advanced Preparation for Senior Trusted Advisors (ATA) focuses on what you do as a change practitioner; Raising Your Game (RYG) focuses on who you are. You can begin with either one; both will lead to progress down the mastery path. The following descriptions summarize our ATA and RYG offerings.

If you are ready to advance down the mastery path with a focus on what you do, the Advanced Trusted Advisor program will support your pursuit.

Advanced Trusted Advisor  (ATA) addresses critical perspectives and mindsets necessary to earn and retain trusted advisor relationships with executive leaders.

The Raising Your Game program focuses on who you are.

Raising Your Game  (RYG) explores the role that character and presence play in the value you create as a trusted advisor to senior leaders.

Advanced Trusted Advisor-related work examines your role as a High Impact Trusted Advisor to senior executives, while Raising Your Game-related work is about the value you have to offer those leaders through your character and presence.
